Nats offer LaRoche two year deal

Via Doug Mittler of ESPN...

Adam LaRoche saw a major bargaining chip come off the board when the Baltimore Orioles signed Derrek Lee to a one-year deal on New Year's Eve.
That essentially leaves LaRoche seeking a marriage of convenience with theWashington Nationals, who struck out with Carlos Pena as a possible first base replacement for the departed Adam Dunn. Bill Ladson of MLB.com reported over the weekend that the Nats have offered LaRoche a two-year deal but are unwilling to go for a third season.
ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reported last month that the left-handed hitting LaRoche, who hit 25 homers and drove in 100 runs for the D-backs last season, is seeking a three-year contract.
Ladson's source says the talks with LaRoche has been "a slow process." After overpaying forJayson Werth, the Nats apparently won't do the same with LaRoche.

The Nats continue to have a hole at 1st base after the departure of Adam Dunn to the Chicago White Sox.  Adding LaRoche would give the Nationals a formidable (although righty heavy) 3-4-5 in their lineup of Ryan Zimmerman, Jayson Werth and LaRoche.  Mittler also reports the teams views Casey Kotchman as a back up option if they don't land LaRoche.
